The 'M' appears near Lady Liberty's neck on the obverse (front) and on the ribbon's left loop on the reverse (back) side. Morgan's obverse features a stunning portrait of Lady Liberty. The reverse depicts a somewhat lean eagle which led some to nickname the coin the “buzzard dollar.” Morgan Silver Dollars underwent numerous design changes during the 43 year production span. Both the arrow feathers and the eagle's tail feathers on the reverse especially received many subtle yet definitive revisions and as such, spawned an incredible number of Morgan Dollar varieties (VAM types) making these brilliant cartwheels an avid collector's dream!
