Precious Metals IRA

(Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Palladium)

The Overview and How to Get Started Guide

Overview

Most Americans want to retire with a secure nest egg (IRA) full of conservative investments with a track record of appreciation. Precious metals (Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Palladium) have historically appreciated faster than traditional investments including Savings Accounts, CD’s, Bonds, Mutual Funds, the Stock Market, and Real Estate just to name a few. That said, there is an easy way to take your existing retirement account and invest it in Precious Metals with a Self-Direct Precious Metals IRA.

How to Open a Precious Metals IRA

To open a Precious Metals IRA you simply need to open an account with a trust company. We’ve listed a company below that we have worked with in the past on behalf of clients. Precious Metals IRA accounts are treated just like traditional Stock Accounts and require similar forms for set up. You can get these forms by either visiting the trust company website, or by emailing [email protected].You will also need to have a “Broker of Record” on your account. The “Broker of Record” is an authorized company with the ability to trade precious metals for you through your account.  On the application, add Stuppler & Company as your broker of record.

How to Fund a Precious Metals IRA

Once your account is open, you’ll need to fund it. Most people typically roll over funds from their existing retirement account such as a 401K, IRA, or Roth IRA. You can transfer over as much money as you wish, but we typically recommend a minimum investment of $25,000.

How to Buy and Sell?

Now that your Precious Metals IRA is open and funded, you are ready to invest in precious metals! Below is the list of approved items for Precious Metal IRA’s.  Contact Stuppler and Company (Broker) to place your trade. After you have completed the trade, Stuppler and Company will send a copy of your invoice to the trust company. Once Stuppler and Company receives funds from the trust company, your precious metals will be delivered to your depository. (see Where Your Metals are Stored below).

Selling your precious metals is also a very quick process. When you are ready to liquidate, just call Stuppler and Company and let us know what you want to sell. After your trade has been finalized and the metals have been received by Stuppler and Company, we will send funds via bank wire to your account. The number of business days until your funds are available for withdrawal depends on the policies of your trust company.

Administration and Storage Fees for Precious Metal IRA accounts

Each trust company has different fees for setting up and running an account. We recommend you contact your trust company for information on what fees you should expect to incur.

Where Are Your Metals Stored?

At no time should a trust company or broker ever hold your investments on your behalf. All Precious Metal IRA trust companies are required to have the precious metals held at a licensed federal depository.  Licensed federal depositories provide easy access for the physical delivery of precious metals, as well as a secure depository location. Each Account Holder’s coins are securely stored in an insured, physically segregated account.
