Gold

Gold has been trading above and below the key $4,000 per ounce support level since June 22. During this time, Gold has reached a low of $3,940 and a high of $4,201 per ounce. Most of the volatility has been driven by the war in Iran and concerns about the future direction of U.S. interest rates. The World Gold Council (WGC) has reported that central banks are actively buying and selling Gold. The WGC reports that Russia is selling while China is buying.

The Russian economy is suffering because of the costs of the war in Ukraine and the many sanctions imposed by the U.S. and other nations. In 2026, the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) sold around 22 metric tons (700,000 to 900,000 troy ounces) of physical Gold to raise an estimated $4.3 billion.

China is on an aggressive Gold-buying spree in 2026, driven by massive central bank accumulation and strong retail investment. The People's Bank of China (PBoC) extended its official buying streak, adding roughly 15 metric tons in June. Additionally, broader private and institutional over-the-counter (OTC) purchases reached record levels, with May imports totaling 151 metric tons.

The U.S.-Iran war worsened over the weekend, with the U.S. launching its ninth straight night of strikes on Iran. At the same time, Iranian missiles are being launched at American bases in the Middle East. It appears this war will continue for quite a while, and the big question is how precious metal prices will react. I believe Gold will trade between $4,000 and $4,200 per ounce throughout July and begin moving higher in August. Gold closed at $4,019 per ounce on Friday, down $17 since the beginning of July.

Key Economic data to watch this week:

  • July 20th, Monday: Federal Reserve Board of Governors Meeting
  • July 23rd, Thursday: Weekly Jobless Claims
  • July 24th, Friday: June Existing Home Sales

Today: Last night in overseas Gold markets, Gold initially dropped to a low of $3,982 before moving back above $4,000 after the Chinese market opened. Gold remained above the $4,000 per ounce level during trading in China, India, London, and after U.S. markets opened.

Silver

Last week, Silver reached a new 2026 low of $54.70 per ounce. The break below $55 per ounce attracted fresh buying on Friday, with Silver closing at $55.90 per ounce. Silver was still down $4 for the week, but premiums on many of the popular Silver investment bullion products have increased.

Today: Last night, Silver traded between $56.50 and $57.50 during overseas trading. If Silver can establish a firm base above $55 this week, I believe it will help stabilize the market as the Iranian war continues.
