Gold

Last week, we saw a disappointing August CPI, PPI, and Jobless claims report. As well, the Iranian war got substantially worse. Gold was negatively affected by all the news last week, reaching a low of $4,292 and dropping $68 by Friday, closing the week at $4,352 per ounce.

Our domestic indicators and the Iranian war weren’t the only news that influenced the price of Gold last week. Record Gold buying by the world’s largest central banks in August is bullish. Gold has overtaken U.S. Treasuries as Central Bank FX reserves.
Plus, global debt and money supply, which hit $150 TRILLION in June, have increased by a staggering 50% since 2020.

This week starts with professional traders believing the Fed will raise interest rates on Wednesday, which contributed to Gold moving lower in early overseas trading this morning.

Key Economic data to watch this week:

  • September 14th, Monday:
  • September 15th, Tuesday:
  • September 16th, Wednesday: FOMC Policy Decision Announcement, Manufacturing and Trade: Inventories and Sales, and August Retail Sales
  • September 17th, Thursday: Weekly Jobless Claims
  • September 18th, Friday:

Today: With oil and gas prices reaching record highs and 10-year Treasury yield hitting 5% in early U.S. trading, Gold reached a low this morning of $4,253 per ounce. Gold rallied back on bargain buying as the market moved into the early afternoon.

Silver

Silver reached a low of $62.50 per ounce last Friday as it reacted to the August CPI, PPI, and Jobless claims report. Silver found buyers in late U.S. trading on Friday, closing at $64.55 per ounce, down $1.63 for the week.

Today: Silver followed Gold lower in early U.S. trading, reaching a low of $62.22 before rallying back, up over $1 per ounce.
