Farran Zerbe, a member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA), is credited with introducing the idea of the Peace dollar in a speech he gave to the organization's 1920 convention. The idea gained political credibility and, though an effort to draft official "Peace Coin" legislation failed, it was popular enough to move forward without congressional approval.
