$2.50 Gold Indian
For the design of the $2.5 Gold Indian, President Theodore Roosevelt hand selected Sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt as the designer. Pratt was mentored by the world renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, designer of the famous St. Gaudens Gold Coins. The $2.5 Gold Indians were only stuck intermittently from 1907 till 1933 when U.S. gold coins were recalled to the Treasury and millions of gold coins were melted down and destroyed forever. Since the $2.5 Gold Indian was produced before 1933, they have additional privacy benefits since they are exempt from 1099 reporting forms.
