These $2.50 Indian Head Quarter Eagles are Popular Dates with a Mint State Choice grade of MS64 from either PCGS or NGC. Popular Dates for the $2.50 Gold Indians are 1908 or 1926-1929, all struck at the Philadelphia mint. Mint State Gold selects the dates you receive and feels confident that you will be very pleased with the selections.

These Choice MS64 coins are wonderful examples of the grade. The fields are smooth and pristine and the devices well-struck. With good detail, bold contrast, and captivating overall eye-appeal, these coins are exceptional for their grade.

Minted from 1908-1929, the Indian Gold Quarter Eagle represented a departure from all precedents in United States coinage. The the $2.5 and $5 Indian Head gold coins were the first (and only) U.S. Gold coins to use the technique known as incuse relief. "Incuse" means that the fine details of the Indian, the Eagle, and the writing are sunken into the gold surface. This new design was created to reduce the wear and replacement costs on these official legal tender Gold coins, which were the circulating money of the day. As a result, the fine details of an incuse gold coin are far better preserved today in addition to making them interesting conversation pieces.
