Description

Here is a 1783 Colonial Washington Large Military Bust Cent in Fine condition. The obverse features a left facing bust with the legend "WASHINGTON & INDEPENDENCE" with the date below. The reverse features a left facing seated figure with the legend "UNITED STATES" above. This is in the World Coins book as KM #Tn36.

Medals, tokens, and coinage proposals in this interesting series dated from 1783 to 1795 bear the portrait of George Washington. The likenesses in most instances were faithfully reproduced and were designed to honor the first president. Many of these pieces were of English origin and were made later than their dates indicate.
