These Australian Platypus Platinum Bullion Coins debuted from the Perth Mint on March 1, 2011. Australia was the first major nation in modern times to produce a one ounce platinum bullion coin as legal tender and the Platinum Platypus is their newest addition.

These beautifully designed Platinum Platypus bullion coins are extensively frosted and radiantly brilliant. Made from 99.95 % pure platinum, as legal tender the 1oz Platinum Platypus carries a face value of $100 and is a globally recognized investment in the precious metal market.

The obverse design contains Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II of England surrounded by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA" and "100 DOLLARS." The reverse of the Platypus Platinum Bullion Coin shows an image of the web-footed mammal surrounded by the inscriptions of "AUSTRALIAN PLATYPUS," "1 oz 9995 PLATINUM", the year produced and the Perth Mint's historic P mint mark.

These Australian Platinum 1oz Platypus are ungraded, raw coins in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) condition. Generally retaining their full original mint luster and exhibiting minimal bag marks or abrasions, these beautiful platinum coins have excellent eye-appeal and make a fine addition to world coin collections or precious metal investment portfolios. Early Release coins are minted during the first 30 days of a series' production, using the first dies forged by the Mint for that particular series.
