The 50 Peso Coin is an iconic coin also known as the gold Centenario. The Obverse depicts the Winged Victory, an angel of independence holding the wreath of military victory in her raised hand and broken chains in the other, meant to symbolize Mexico's independence from Spanish Colonial rule. The Reverse sports the Mexican coat of arms, an eagle perched atop a cactus fighting with a snake in its talons and beak. The Centenario was first minted in 1921 to celebrate 100 years of independence for Mexico.
