Presenting a very rare Civil War era 1857-S $20 Liberty Genuine XF Details from PCGS. From the San Francisco mint, this double eagle is more than 150 years old and was minted just a few years before the onset of the American Civil War in 1861. Very few graded coins from this era still exist. In fact, PCGS reports a current population of only 5,852 1857-S $20 Liberty coins IN TOTAL. PCGS notes that this coin has been surface tooled, which is not too uncommon for coins of this age and date. This is a perfect chance to own a rare part of American history dating back to before the American Civil War.

Each $20 Liberty gold coin contains one full ounce of pure gold! The most recognizable and highly esteemed coin of its day, the $20 Gold Liberty was born as a result of the California Gold Rush of 1848. Commonly called Double Eagles, these historical coins were produced continuously from 1849 – 1907 and served as currency in the United States until 1933.

The coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive. A 1857-S $20 Liberty, graded XF Details by PCGS with Certification number 8922.98/26257369. PCGS graded coins are sonically sealed in a protective, tamper-evident PCGS NumisCap holder. A special label within the holder indicates the coin's certification number, grade, date, denomination, unique bar code and pedigree if applicable.
