From the popular San Francisco mintage, this historic $20 Liberty Gold coin, graded MS61 by PCGS, has many attributes normally found in higher graded coins. Shining brightly with a brilliant amber-gold luster, the well-struck devices are boldly displayed against a backdrop of satiny fields; you could literally count the Eagle's feathers or the hairs on Lady Liberty's head! With far fewer bag marks or blemishes than the average MS61, this brilliant, uncirculated, gold coin is definitely high-end for the grade.

From an original San Francisco mintage of over 2 million Liberty Double Eagle coins in 1899, a mere .3% (that's less than one-third of one percent!) have been graded in Mint State condition by PCGS like this gold rarity has. Designed by James B. Longacre, with a composition of .900 fine gold, this Liberty coin is truly in beautiful condition and has rightfully earned its place in the Certified Mint State coins category.

The most recognizable and highly esteemed coin of its day, each $20 Liberty gold coin contains just shy of one full ounce of pure gold! Commonly called Double Eagles, these historical coins were produced continuously from 1849 – 1907 and served as currency in the United States until 1933. The Liberty Double Eagle was born as a result of the California Gold Rush of 1848. The obverse, inspired by the $10 Gold Liberty Eagle, features a left facing image of Lady Liberty, donning a coronet inscribed with the word “LIBERTY”, surrounded by 13 stars representing the original 13 states. The reverse boasts one of the most impressive images on any U.S. coin in the form of a dauntless eagle with wings fully spread.
