ONLY 37 HIGHER, RPM FS-501 variety, beautiful golden fields, smooth fields, gorgeous eye-appeal... This 1911-D/D Saint Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle has received an impressive Gem grade of MS65 from PCGS. This 1911 Denver Saint is of the RPM (Re-punched Mintmark) FS-501 variety which adds to its rarity and desirability. This Double Eagle shines with a brilliant and bright honey-gold luster. The crisp devices and sharp detail contrast beautifully against the satiny smooth fields and add to the amazing eye-appeal. A few small reddish-orange copper spots are present on the surfaces contributing to the unique character this Saint possesses. This 1911-D/D Saint has remarkable eye-appeal and will easily fit into any Gold registry.

In 1911, the Denver Mint produced 846,500 Saint Gaudens gold coins with very few of them having the re-punched 'D' mintmark. Newly minted examples were held almost entirely as part of the nation's gold reserves and almost all of those were melted following the gold recall order signed in 1933. Only a fraction of the original mintage survived circulation and the massive bullion melts of the 1930s. Current PCGS population reports show that of the RPM FS-501 variety ONLY 89 have graded MS65 and ONLY 37 graded higher, all at MS66 with a list price of $6,500.

Minted from 1907-1933, the $20 gold coin known as the St. Gaudens Double Eagle is considered by many to be the most beautiful type of U.S. coin ever minted. A favorite among investors and collectors, coins from this series have historically continued to appreciate due to their significant role in U.S. history, attractiveness to collectors, and brilliant gold content.
