Struck at the West Point Mint, this 2012-W $5 Gold Eagle features sharp, well-struck devices on smooth and pristine, gleaming fields. First Release coins are produced using the first dies forged by the Mint for a particular series. Use of these first dies typically result in a higher quality strike and finer details. A coin must be proven to have been released by the Mint within the first 30 days of issue in order to be designated First Releases. Only a limited quantity of coins will be classified First Release during any production run, making them prized among collectors and investors for their increased scarcity and added beauty.
