ONE OF THE VERY BEST… This Key Date 1879-CC $1 Morgan Silver Capped Die dollar has been awarded the prestigious honor of being graded MS65 by PCGS, which is extremely rare for the mintage. Incredibly attractive and appealing to the eye, this silver dollar features nearly proof- like fields and a highly lustrous cartwheel shine. Sharp devices and clean fields create gorgeous contrast and contribute even further to the stunning nature of this Morgan. Light bronze toning encircles the rim on both the obverse and reverse of this Carson City dollar.

This Morgan dollar is also of the Capped Die variety, which means that the mint mark was re-punched on the original die. This creates an unusual 'CC' mintmark where upon closer inspection you can see a larger 'CC' atop a smaller 'CC'. This anomaly is much more rare than the normal mintmark variety and is also highly collectible to serious silver numismatic collectors.

The Carson City mint only produced 756,000 Morgan Silver Dollars in 1879, an extremely low mintage compared to the Philadelphia mintage of that year which totaled over 14.8 million. In addition to the low mintage many 1879-CC silver dollars have heavy bagmarks and do not graded in GEM condition. Those that do, like this one, are considered very rare and highly desirable. Current PCGS population shows ONLY 12 GRADED MS65 and none finer, making this 1879-CC Morgan Dollar ONE OF THE FINEST IN EXISTENCE.

This outstanding investment coin has also been awarded the prestigious PQ Approved sticker for its impeccable condition. A PQ Approved sticker is awarded to exceptional coins that pass a strict grading standard created by our founder, Barry Stuppler, a highly respected dealer with over 50 years experience in the numismatic industry. The PQ Approved sticker ensures that you are buying the highest quality coin, which historically has proven to offer the best appreciation and liquidity compared to similar non-PQ Approved coins.
