ONLY 4 FINER THAN MS66, CAC certified, semi-prooflike surfaces, brilliant eye-appeal... This gorgeous 1879 Morgan Dollar graded GEM MS66 by PCGS is a magnificent example of its mintage. The fields are smooth and exhibit a beautiful mint luster shine. The majority of the surface radiates a brilliant shine that is very pleasing to the eye while the rim glows with a warm honey hue. Both the obverse (front side) and reverse (back side) devices are boldly struck, with lots of detail in both Liberty's hair and the individual feathers of the American eagle, an all-around very superior Morgan Dollar.

A low population can be attributed to the order to melt down 270 million silver dollars still on hand by the Pittman Act of 1918 and subsequent melting. It is estimated that only 17% of all Morgan dollars minted still survive and even fewer survived to be graded in Mint State condition like this one. You are looking at one of the lucky exceptions that have survived to receive a high Gem State grade. Current PCGS population reports show that ONLY 4 EXAMPLES HAVE GRADED HIGHER THAN MS66… all at MS67 with a list price at $45,000!!!

This coin has also been awarded the prestigious CAC certification for its bright luster and incredible detail. With CAC, prices for the solid quality coins are untethered from their lesser quality counterparts. A coin with CAC certification will have significant meaning to collectors and investors, and CAC coins tend to command higher premiums than their contemporary counterparts.

This rarity has also been named "Outstanding Value" by CoinStats, July 2014. CoinStats is a quarterly statistical publication provided free of charge to all our clients. Designed to identify coins with the highest potential in price growth based on a detailed analysis of each individual coins population, value differential, and market capitalization, CoinStats is a valuable investment tool that enables numismatic investors to maximize their return when selecting rare coins.
