This 1897-S $1 Morgan Silver Dollar graded MS65 GEM by PCGS and has outstanding original mint luster and a bright cartwheel shine. An exceptionally strong strike has resulted in impressive, well-defined devices on both sides of this stunning Silver Dollar. There is a gentle trace of russet toning on the reverse (back) and a very small spot on Liberty’s chin on the obverse (front) that adds to the originality of this Morgan. This San Francisco Morgan has great eye-appeal and is certainly worthy of any collection.

Morgan Silver Dollars, often referred to as ‘cartwheels’, are coins right out of the Old West! The obverse (front side) of the Morgan dollar features a portrait of Lady Liberty, while the reverse (back side) depicts a somewhat lean eagle, which led some to nickname these coins the “buzzard dollars.”

Morgan Silver Dollars underwent numerous design changes during their 43 year production span. Both the arrow feathers and the eagle’s tail feathers on the reverse especially received many subtle yet definitive revisions. As such, they spawned an incredible number of Morgan Dollar varieties (VAM types) making these brilliant cartwheels an avid collector’s dream.
